A Stream With Thy Holdovers...

A Fat Holdover Fish
I won't do this too often just because this post does nothing for you all because I do not mention the name of the stream. I really don't know why so many fish can holdover here, it is a well known stream that receives a fair amount of pressure too. This stream hasn't been stocked this spring yet and the fish here have held over from the fall stocking just about 5 months ago. As you can see from the pics, they sure have been eating. I landed 7 Rainbow Trout within a mile of the creek, I also brought 1 Bluegill and 1 Redear Sunfish to hand. All were taken on a Trout Magnet, the twitch method.

Tackle: Fluorocarbon is a must this time of year to catch numbers of fish, the light goes through fluoro unlike mono which just reflects light. This stream is tight, so I had to use my outdated BPS UL Rod and the PFlueger Trion GX-7. The rod, well is good, but the reel is losing, it is hard to reel especially compared to my Shimano Sedona on my 9' Trinity Rod. Trout Magnet was the business end, the winning colors were Chartreuse, White, and Mealworm.

Summary: Go out there and find your own little stream, technology is so great nowadays we can research an entire watershed while not stepping outside. Go to Google Maps, check out some surveys on the DNR website, look at the interactive map that the DNR has relating to fishing. Look at the streams in Satellite mode and really study the stream so you know where to fish, pay attention to tributaries and springs in relation to the stream. Technology is so great.

Yes!: I have made some homemade Trout spinners, they are not Panther Martins or anything but they did catch two Trout when I fished them. I do not have the confidence in them yet, because I have only fished them like twice so far.
