Frank Bentz gets its share of pressure. From what I heard, it is crowded on opening day and it was crowded when I went. There are a bunch of other places that are way better than Bentz in terms of pressure. I went there a couple days ago (been a little behind in posts) and there was no room to fish the lake. People were everywhere...on the dam, in the middle of the lake, and one guy was chest deep in the middle. There was only one spot that wasn't crowded, and that was below the dam. We all know it, dams hold fish and really well too. Nobody was catching anything in the lake except for a couple stockers. I started fishing the dam, I brought a little Smallmouth Bass to hand. This proves my other post that I did on Frank Bentz, where I thought it was a Smallie on my line that got off. You can view that story here. Five minutes later, a nice Rainbow Trout was landed. We packed it up and headed home after a nice day of fishing. No pics today folks.
Tackle: I fished Trout Magnet on 2lb test, a variety of colors can come in handy when they are picky. A fluorocarbon leader is necessary this late after stocking, go with 12-15 inches of 2 or 4lb test.
Summary: Frank Bentz gets a whole lot of pressure during the height of stocking season. If you want to fish this right, come early.
Fish Count: 2
Species: 1 S.M. Bass, 1 Rainbow Trout
2012 Fish Count: 232

ReplyDeleteThe trout magnet will land trout when nothing else will. Thanks for sharing
Crowds and tough fishing get a thumbs down in my book. Glad you came up with a nice few!
